Clockwork Toy    Project
First Year
To design a clockwork toy in the style of Lego Duplo for Kids
Space Toys:
To design an injection moulded, modular clock toy that houses a standaridestd mechanism for a toddler aged 4-5 that can be played with safely and is themed around space exploration.

I went down the road of Space Exploration as it’s a vast and interesting topic that isn’t limited by gender, has a large creative scope, and can instil a huge range of interests in young children.
Prototyping
The entire part was created from Black + White PLA+ weighing in around 200g. It was designed to be manufactured tthrough injection moulding so draft angles and supports were considered.

A fully functional 3D model was created with the clockwork mechanism in place. It was composed of 5 replacable parts that fit together in the style of Lego Duplo.

Modularity was heavily considered so it can be easily put together and broken apart by children.
Technical Detailing
The plane would be made from medium impact ABS. It has the highest fracture toughness meaning it is the most suitable material for this product. I also made sure it was suitable for excellent injection moulding and stated I didn’t need any filler or reinforcement parts.
